Weekday
Providing an Atmosphere of Love and Learning

Following are the 2010-11 class offerings with the details for each.  All classes have two teachers.  To be eligible for a class, a child must be that age as of September 1, 2010.  The 15-23 month old classes will be separated into two classes for each rotation according to the ages of the children enrolled (creating one younger and one older class).

Entrance Requirements
A child must be the age of the enrollment class on or before September 1, 2010 for the child to be eligible for that age level class.  A non-refundable, non-transferable registration fee (as provided above) is required at the time of registration.  Kindergarten students are also responsible for a non-refundable, non-transferable curriculum fee of $50, which is due by April 1, 2010.  If registering after April 1st, the curriculum fee is due at the time of registration.  Tuition payments are due on the 1st day of the following months to maintain enrollment: July, September, October, November, December, January, February, March, and April. Children enrolled in 3-year old classes and older are to be toilet trained before entering preschool.  A current immunization form must be provided by July 1, 2010 or at the time of registration if after July 1, 2010.  Updates must be provided if a child’s immunization record expires at any time.  For more information concerning immunizations, please contact the Weekday school nurse.

Philosophy
The importance of preschool experiences cannot be overemphasized. These experiences are foundations upon which other education is built. The preschool years should be happy and relaxed - a time in which children feel successful.

At Sugar Hill Church, we recognize that all children pass through various stages of growth, yet that each child has his/her individual rate and pattern of growth. It is not our intent to attempt to speed up the growth of any child, but rather to provide a stimulating environment in which all children can explore, discover and experience success.
When a child enters the Weekday Preschool, he does not come merely for academic development. Rather, he comes to develop habits and share experiences that will provide a firm foundation upon which he will build the skills necessary for his contributing role in society.

At Sugar Hill Church, a child will be provided an environment to learn to interact socially with teachers and other children, to work and play in a group and to grasp the concept of sharing. Children will be given the opportunity for following simple and reasonable directions as well as creative, emotional and artistic expression. The children are taught how to use books, to love and appreciate them, and to realize that pictures and words convey meanings. Opportunities for self-expression through music and singing, show and tell, drawing and painting, conversation and other creative activities are provided to help the children as they discover who they are.

The Weekday Preschool is an outreach program of Sugar Hill Church engaging our community with the love and hope of Jesus Christ. The learning environment, which teaches children about themselves and the world around them, is designed to stimulate an awareness of our God and His love for us.
Weekday preschool is really an adventure for any child. It is the beginning of an exciting new phase of life - the school years.

Goals
Our primary goals at Sugar Hill Church Weekday Preschool and Kindergarten are to provide each child with the following opportunities:

1.    To have a variety of experiences in which he/she feels successful.
2.    To combine old and new learning, making a firm foundation.
3.    To express his/her ideas in a variety of ways, such as art, music, and language.
4.    To be a part of large and small group activities.
5.    To learn through problem solving or discovery methods.
6.    To be in situations where he/she can develop a beginning awareness of the relationship between freedom and responsibility.
7.    To be in situations where he/she can feel needed.
8.    To be in situations which stimulate mental, emotional, social, physical and spiritual growth.
9.    To learn about God through sharing, songs, and Bible study.

Goals will be provided as children are ready. No child will be hurried or pushed to do anything for which he/she is not developmentally ready, which can cause frustration and ultimately poor self-esteem and a negative attitude toward school. Children receive regular praise for their efforts. Growing positive self-esteem and a love for learning is at the heart of everything we do.

To accomplish these goals and to ensure safety, security, and accountability, there are two teachers (a lead and an assistant) in every classroom every day.

Curriculum
Our core curriculum is Wee Learn which is published by Lifeway Christian Resources.  Wee Learn is composed of thematic units which are appropriate for and of interest to preschoolers.  This curriculum incorporates learning concepts and idea expression through play (the work of young children).  Children will have the opportunity throughout each unit to explore, discover, imagine, imitate, and create in centers of language arts, mathematics, blocks, homeliving (dramatic play), puzzles, manipulatives, art, science and nature, sand and water, and music.  Bible concepts partner with every theme of study, reinforcing that God and His Word are relevant and important to all areas of our lives and our world.

All classes attend a Music and Creative Movement class regularly.  The Pre-K, TK and Kindergarten students have the additional opportunity for enrichment such as Spanish, Science, Physical Education and/or Art.
Other materials are used to enhance and supplement the Wee Learn curriculum in our three, four and five year old classes.  Saxon is used to develop math and language arts skills in the Kindergarten class.
